Glenn Switkes

Glenn Switkes in Patagonia

On Sunday Sally and Stefan attended a celebratory memorial  for our friend Glenn Switkes who died suddenly a few weeks ago. One of Glenn's friends asked us all to live our lives as we would want to be remembered. Glen accomplished a lot and had fun while doing it. Glenn was a force for the preservation of the Amazon, fighting dams and keeping rivers free flowing.

First at Rainforest Action Network and then as the Amazon program manager at Ineternational Rivers Network Glenn built coalitions of local communities and taught media awareness and film making.   Glenn and Monti Aguirre's  film “Amazonia: Voices of the Rainforest.” was perhaps the first major  documentary to call attention to the destruction of the Amazon.

Before that he made “Four Corners: A National Sacrifice Area?” His latest film is Tapajós: A Cry From the Heart of the Amazon Sally and Stefan and Stefan's sister Annelise knew Glenn through many shared friends with crossed paths. Perhaps your path crossed Glenn's too.

TAKE ACTION to keep the rivers of the Amazon and Patagonia free flowing.
